FAQs
Our first FAQBack in the mists of prehistory, the committee of the Society thought it would be a good idea to develop information sheets for members and potential members to cover recurrent questions. By far the most common question fielded is the one that goes, Well, so how do I become an editor? We have produced what we hope is a serious attempt to answer to that question. A good part of the answer is about clarifying the context defining what an editor is, who employs them, what employers expect, how to establish credentials and finally, a look at longer term employment issues. The FAQ aims to help people who are serious about wanting to work with words to do their homework by researching the context, setting achievable goals and sustaining their employability into the future. The FAQ tries to distil some of the knowledge we have accrued within our membership and make it accessible to the casual or serious enquirer. Feel free to copy it and pass it on to those who want to know. Holly McCausland, the committee at the time, and a small volunteer band of members contributed during the somewhat protracted development process and deserve thanks. The FAQ sheet was updated in 2006. Please let us know what you think of it. |
