In addition to the individual editing societies in each Australian state, there is a national organisation set up to debate and consider items of national interest and importance: the Institute of Professional Editors or IPEd, formerly the Council of Australian Societies of Editors (CASE). The Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) website is www.iped-editors.org

IPEd has been created with the support of all the state and territory societies of editors. IPEd came into being at the October 2005 national conference in Melbourne. The Interim Council of IPEd investigated which form of organisation will best assist IPEd to manage the agreed national system of accreditation, promote the profession, discuss education and training across Australia and across sectors. In May 2007, members of all state and territory societies voted on and passed a proposal to establish IPEd as a company limited by guarantee. The website will be updated from time to time with news of IPEd activities in areas such as accreditation, standards, professional development, conferences and promotion.

The Interim Council of IPED:

  • has one representative from each society
  • is not an incorporated body
  • does not make binding decisions for the societies
  • operates by consensus, not majority vote
  • establishes working groups led by a convenor to explore issues
  • is funded on a pro rata basis, determined by end-of-year financial statements.

For further information contact SA's IPEd representative, Rosemary Luke, or Accreditation Board member, Karen Disney. Kathie Stove is Convenor of the Communication Committee.
