Editors South Australia (Editors SA) is the lead organisation for editors and editing in South Australia

Editors South Australia is a professional association that supports practising editors and promotes the highest standards of editing. Editors SA provides regular opportunities for its members to meet one another, develop their editing (and related) skills and keep up to date with new technologies. Professional accreditation is strongly advocated through IPEd (Institute of Professional Editors) as a way of setting an objective benchmark of standards. IPEd’s Editors Directory links editors to potential employers or clients.

The art of internet fact checking: some tips and ideas
Presented by Jason Jackiw
Checking facts--spellings and spatials, truths and trends--has become a whole lot easier for everybody since the internet became ubiquitous. But even the most painstaking fact-checking editors will at some time come to the place where it seems there are no Google answers and, perhaps just as frustratingly, no quick answers.
However, the difference between a successful internet search and a frustrating one often lies with us, dear readers, and a few extra search skills are what can take us from mediocre to clever when we're stalking facts.
Jason will take us through some examples of internet searches and demonstrate the tools he uses to locate obscure information under time pressure. He will also show us how to go about searching for specialist information, which is something you need a bit more time for. But both types of searches need special thinking to get you out of internet dead ends.
